What's in your bottled water? It's more than 2 H's and an O!

Okay, okay – so it was about time… In my last couple blog posts I have mentioned that bottled water isn’t a fix or safe solution for our filtered/purified water needs. Today let’s dig into some of the findings about what is actually in our bottled waters. (And may I note, although I will not mention specific brands, my research shows the bottled waters tested were the brands we all know and buy in the grocery stores!)

For starters, did you know that bottled water samples have been shown to contain, but not be limited to:

-mold

-Phtyhalates

-Microbes

-ARSENIC (yeah, even small traces of arsenic)

So…I didn’t really know what some of those fancy chemicals were that I mentioned above, like “Phtyhalates or Microbes", so I spent a couple minutes looking up those chemicals found in bottled water and most sites I found had big disclaimers that there has been hardly any research done on humans and the effects of prolonged exposure to these chemicals. That makes you feel better right, they don’t know what they do to us, so just include them in the bottles anyway! Ignorance is bliss right? Well, not really… look at the key words that popped up in my search for the above chemicals in bottle water when tested on animals: -testicular defects -liver injuires

-cancer

-irritation of eyes, skin, nose and throat

-reproductive issues

(**I am not promoting animal testing here in anyway, I am merely sharing facts with you of what has already been researched**)

Don’t just go on my word alone, check out the Natural Resources Defense Council’s site, where it discusses that the council fought for the FDA to start regulating bottle waters on the market for E. Coli! Ewww!!! :-/

So, you've probably think, well, I drink out of the "BPA free" bottles only, "so, I'm safe!" I wish I could tell you that was the case, but according to National Geographic's study on bottled water, the BPA free containers can emit other gases and toxins when being heated (like left in a warm car or even a truck and being brought to the store from warehouse) that they say and I quote straight from their article can be "linked to reproductive problems and heart disease"

Lastly, not to go all environmental on ya, but if all the above reasons have not convinced you to not continue grabbing bottled water, most of the plastic water bottles in the grocery stores are not biodegradable, meaning the bottles are going to stick around in those waste fields for many, many years!!

Okay, so what’s our solution here? It’s quite simple… get a water filtration system on your home &/or business water supply and safely drink out of your favorite glass! ;-)
