Well, I’ve blogged recently on what’s in that bottled water we all grab to drink each day, why we need to be hydrated and the idea of having a communal filtration system for your home or business… so let’s touch a topic that we haven’t addressed… your tap water! Since I’ve started working for Purologix and doing some research of my own on water and the purity of it… I’ve quit going straight for the fancy bottled water we use to ALWAYS have to drink from and I’ve started going back to the tap…thinking, well, at least it’s not bottled water!

Oh man, so after reading up on some info. From the NRDC (National Resources Defense Council) I found that EVEN my tap water isn’t necessarily as safe as I thought.

Just take a look at the opening sentence from the NRDC’s study I came across:

“NRDC reports on the drinking water systems of 19 cities and finds that pollution, old pipes and outdated treatment threaten tap water quality.”

As I continued to research a bit more, I found that a good majority of cities around the US still have “pre-World War I-era water delivery systems and treatment technology”. Okay, to make ourselves feel better we could say, well, it worked for them, so it’ll work for us…like that Tim McGraw song “back when a screw was a screw..the wind was all that blew, etc.” But, hold up, because then they didn’t have the same amount of 21st century contaminants that we do today, such as industrial chemicals and other rising number of pesticides that our country in it’s current polluted state is overran with! So, what does all this mean? It means in order for us to have safe tap water, a whole LOT would have to take place:

1st: Updated, safer pipes and water delivery equipment

2nd: An efficient maintenance program that is either city, state or even federally ran

3rd: Our water sources would need to be protected from pollution (which we can get into more in an entirely different blog!)

So, if all the stars align and the moon is full, etc., etc., then your lakes are clean and everything is all peachy clean and we can drink away from the tap without worries right? Well, yes, this would be the case, but if we are being realistic, the 3 items I listed above are NOT happening currently in the US. When we go to test families and businesses water there is lead, iron, pathogens and various other things that contaminate your drinking, bathing, cooking water!!!

In the spirit of talking about water, I want you to know, today’s blog is not to be a downer…I’m a “glass half-full” kinda gal (pun intended), just being real with you for your own well-being and to give you some real knowledge about the aqua you interact with so many moments of your day.
