Get your morning started right!

Let’s talk about something I have never been good at: MORNINGS! There’s nothing I do well about mornings, getting up, getting ready on time, etc., etc., etc! BUT…there is one thing I have learned to do in the morning that I want to share with you! DRINKING WATER!

Yeah, I know we all know the benefits of drinking water in general…but is water the first thing you grab to put in your body when you first wake up? I typically did not. I use to grab coffee (and I will say, I’m weird and drink decaf coffee only…so it wasn’t even for the caffeine…just the taste and sugar I guess!) Then I have to admit (and I’m a bit ashamed) but sometimes I grab my good ole favorite Mountain Dew for breakfast! Yikes! (sugar high AND caffeine, what can I say?!)

But…research shows drinking water (and why would you drink anything other than filtered water) first thing when you wake up in the morning, before eating or drinking anything else has its benefits…

1st let’s set the stage before I tell you the benefits. Go all day at work or school and do not drink anything at all… no water, not even a sip, no tea, coffee, soda, etc. ….do you feel thirsty just thinking about it? I do! Well, that is basically what we do to our bodies while sleeping all night, so while you rest your body slowly becomes dehydrated. (Ever get up to pee in the middle of the night? Or like me, you are put with a little one through out the night? Think about how dry your mouth feels then!)

Okay…now that you have the mindset, you are first waking up and thirsty and dehydrated… here we go:

-Fires up your metabolism by 24% if the first thing that hits your tummy is water! -Water is flushing out your body of toxins after a full night of sleeping and digesting and becoming dehydrated.

-Your brain gets to kicking! What? Yeah, so your brain tissue is 75% water, so the quicker you replenish your supply, the quicker you will be able to hit the ground running to start your day! (Mentally that is!) (Ever feel like you haven’t woke up yet or still in “a fog” as the morning is moving faster than you…probably because your brain tissue is lacking the hydration it needs)

-You will eat less overall (this actually applies to any meal of the day where you drink a full glass of water first)…common sense here…fill you belly up with water first then there is less room for food.

Okay, now that I’ve shared some major benefits of drinking water (make sure it’s filtered!) think… What could be more simple than pouring some filtered water in a glass and gulp it down before beginning the rest of your day?!
